VERA THOMAS (BABA) July 28, 1913 - August 23, 2004 After a courageous battle with cancer with her family by her side in Peguis, MB, Vera went home to be with her Lord and Saviour. Vera will be greatly missed by all who knew her. She leaves to mourn her two daughters, Millie Steigerwalt (Horst) of Edmonton, AB and Betty Dalkeith (Herb) of Chilliwack, BC. Her brother Harry Cook (Carrie) of Winnipeg, and her brother-in-law Lloyd Penwarden of Kingston, ON. Her son-in-law Peter Houle of Winnipeg, MB; daughters-in-law, Doreen Thomas of Winnipeg, Melvina Thomas of Peguis, MB, Eva Sinclair of Edmonton, and Barb Thomas of Wetaskiwin, AB. Vera had 26 grandchildren and 47 great-grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Vera was predeceased by her parents, Beatrice and Colin Cook; husband Jack Thomas in 1970; her sons, Harvey Thomas, Jack Thomas, Sie Thomas, Richard Thomas; and daughter Myrna Houle. She was also predeceased by her sisters, Maude Penwarden and Mabel Smith; her brother Bill Cook and great-grandson Daylan Sinclair. Vera was well known and respected in her community. She shared her faith and beliefs with all who knew her as she was a strong and devoted Christian. We will never forget all that she has taught us about life, the Lord and Love. The family and friends will always remember visits with her and her homemade cooking. She touched and gave many strengths and beliefs during hard and difficult times. Family, friends and relatives will always love and cherish her memories. We will always love you Baba. The family would like to thank the nurses, doctors and staff at the Percy E. Moore Hospital who helped us through this difficult time. We would also like to express our gratitude to all of her friends who came to see her and for all the prayers that were said. "I have fought the good fight. I have finished the race. I have kept the faith. Now there is in store for me the crown of righteousness, with the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to me on that day and not only to me, but also to all who have longed for his appearing." 2 Timothy 4:7,8 Wake service will be held on Wednesday, August 25 at 8:00 p.m. Funeral service will be held on Thursday, August 26 at 2:00 p.m. with viewing from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. Both services will be held at the St. Matthews Anglican Church, Peguis, MB.
