ELIZABETH KERKINOS
Date of Passing: Aug 24, 2004
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryELIZABETH KERKINOS In the early morning of August 24, 2004 Elizabeth passed away at Poseidon Care Home after a very lengthy illness. Elizabeth was born in Cairo, Egypt and moved to Canada with her husband and daughter Maria in 1963. They moved to Thompson, MB where they joined a close-knit Greek community. In 1965, her son Dimitri was born. Elizabeth was a quiet woman whose feelings and thoughts ran deep. She took great pride in her family and would always put their needs before hers. Elizabeth suffered many hardships throughout her life -- one of the hardest was the passing of her son Dimitri (Jim) in 1992, which was the beginning of her failing health. Her husband Basil passed away in 1995, which again was very difficult for her. She was also predeceased by her brother Photi and her parents. She is survived by her daughter, Maria, son-in-law Russell Kernaghan and her grandchildren Stephen and Alana. Her family was very important to her and was what kept her going through difficult times. Her eyes always lit up when she was visited by her loving grandchildren. She also leaves behind her sister Stepha, and brother Kypros from Montreal. She will be missed but always remembered by her family. We would like to extend our most sincere thanks to the staff of Poseidon Care Center with a special thanks to Helen and Jay for their support through her years there. A heartfelt thanks and appreciation to our friends Irini, Janice and Paulette who were dedicated to visiting my mother even when she was not able to give much in return and also to those others who were able to visit her. Prayers will be on Thursday, August 26 at 7:00 p.m. at Thomson "in the Park" Funeral Home at 1291 MacGillivray Blvd. The funeral will be at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, August 27 at St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox church on Grant Avenue. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian Parkinsons Society or to the Alzheimer Society of Manitoba.
