Born to John McLeod McDonald and Flora Ann (MacAskill), in St. Boniface, MB, on September 24, 1917, Ruth was the youngest of six children. She spent her formative years in Winnipeg and was employed with the T. Eaton Co. She married Hugh Cavell McNairnay in Winnipeg November 30, 1940. They had four children, Ian Donald (Gail) of Armstrong, Hugh Roderick (Georgina) of Salmon Arm, Marion Jean Ottmann (Lawrence) of Cochrane, AB and Neil Gordon (Beverly) of Red Deer, AB. Ruth and Hugh raised their family in Calgary, Edmonton, Saskatoon and Ponoka. Ruth devoted her life to her husband and children and developed many lifelong friendships along the way. She was extremely proud of her Scottish heritage. She was a member of the Masonic Family and was Worthy Matron of Battle River Chapter, Order of the Eastern Star, in Ponoka, AB in 1974. Following Hughs retirement, they lived in Chilliwack, Qualicum Beach, Kelowna and Armstrong. Ruth was a resident of Pleasant Valley Manor, Armstrong, for the last six years. She is survived by her children, eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Special thanks go to the staff at Pleasant Valley Manor, ICU Dr. B. Chi and the nursing staff at Vernon Jubilee Hospital, for Ruths care. In memory of Ruth, donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation. Cremation, a private celebration of life will be held by the family. Personal Alternative Funeral Services, Mr. Wayne Kyle, Armstrong, 546-7237, in charge of arrangements.
