ANTONIO JOSEPH DESLAURIERS Peacefully on July 29, 2004, at Ste. Rose General Hospital at the age of 78 years. Tony was born April 23, 1926, at Laurier, MB, to Louis and Emilie (Boudreau). He will be lovingly remembered by siblings, Marie Rose Sanderson, Pierre Deslauriers, Rachelle Lofvendahl, Eveline Danchuk, Reynald Deslauriers; family and friends. Tony lived with his family until his teen years, then worked for the CNR in Winnipeg. He enlisted in the Canadian Navy at the age of 17, serving as Gunner between May 1944 and July 1946. He enjoyed sharing the stories of his adventures in the service. He returned to the CNR as a welder until 1957, then moved to California and worked while upgrading his education. He met many famous people. His family was happy at his homecoming after seven years. Tony worked as office manager at Red River Construction, and managed the Caisse Populaire of Laurier, Ste. Agathe, and Ste. Rose, until his retirement in 1984. He remained active on the Laurier Board of Directors as President until 2001. He served as Treasurer of the Manitoba Metis Federation, supported the Foster Parents Plan, Habitat for Humanity, Royal Canadian Legion, National Firearms Assoc. and Manitoba Big Game Trophy Assoc. He was a member of Notre Dame des Victoires Church and had served as an usher at St. Marys Cathedral. Tony loved to play tennis and was fond of flying small aircraft. An avid hunter and fisherman, he looked forward to his annual treks with his extended family. Blessed with many friends, he always gave love, understanding and encouragement. Tonys last gift to the world was to donate his body for medical research. If desired, donations in his honour may be made to the Palliative Care Unit, Ste. Rose General Hospital, or the Anatomical Research Fund U of M., 730 William Ave., Winnipeg, MB R3E 0W3.
