PERE ANTONIO FORTIN, o.m.i. 1917 - 2004 Paisiblement, apres une longue maladie, a Saint-Boniface est decede le Pere Antonio Fortin, o.m.i., le 27 aout 2004 a lage de 86 ans. En plus de sa famille religieuse, les Oblats de Marie Immaculee, il laisse dans le deuil ses freres Fernand et Romuald, ainsi que nombreux neveux et nieces. Antonio Fortin est ne a Price, Comte Matane, Quebec le 12 septembre 1917, fils de Hermenegilde Fortin et de Dorilda Deschenes. Le 14 aout 1937 il prit lhabit chez les Oblats de Marie Immaculee a Ville LaSalle, Quebec et fut ordonne pretre le 19 juin 1943 a Ottawa par son Excellence Monseigneur Lajeunesse, o.m.i. Depuis 1944, le Pere Fortin a fait valoir ses talents de professeur a Gravelbourg, SK et a Saint-Boniface, MB. a partir de 1967, il exerce son ministere dans les missions aupres des autochtones a Bloodvein, Fort Alexandre et Vermillion Bay. En 1977, il devient cure a Redvers SK, en 1981 a Elie, MB et apres, vicaire a Ste Rose du Lac, MB. En 1989 il oeuvra a Sioux Narrows, ON jusqua sa retraite en 1996 a la Casa Bonita. Les Oblats et la famille Fortin desirent exprimer leur reconnaissance au personnel de linfirmerie a la Casa Bonita pour leur devouement au Pere Fortin pendant sa maladie. Les prieres auront lieu le dimanche 29 aout a 19h00 a la Salle Aubert au 474, rue Aulneau, a Saint-Boniface. La messe de la Resurrection sera celebree le lundi 30 aout 2004 a 10h30 a la Salle Aubert, 474, rue Aulneau, a Saint-Boniface. Le visionnement commencera a 10h00. Linhumation sera au cimetiere de Saint-Boniface. FATHER ANTONIO FORTIN, O.M.I. 1917 - 2004 Peacefully, on August 27, 2004, in Saint-Boniface, following a lengthy illness, Fr. Antonio Fortin passed away at the age of 86. Besides his religious family, he leaves to mourn his brothers, Fernand and Romuald as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Antonio Fortin was born in Price, Comte Matane, QC, son of Hermenegilde Fortin and Dorilda Deschenes. He entered the Oblates of Mary Immaculate at Ville LaSalle, Quebec on August 14, 1937, and was ordained June 19, 1943 in Ottawa by Bishop Lajeunesse, o.m.i. In 1944, Fr. Fortins first ministry was to teach in Gravelbourg SK then in Saint-Boniface, MB until 1967. The following years brought him to the missions of Bloodvein, Fort Alexander and Vermillion Bay. In 1997, he became pastor in the parishes of Redvers SK, Elie, MB, then vicar in Ste. Rose du Lac MB. From 1989 until his retirement in 1996, he served as co-pastor and administrator in Sioux Narrows, ON. The Oblates and the Fortin family wish to express their appreciation to the nursing staff at the Casa Bonita for their care and devotion to Fr. Fortin during his illness. A prayer vigil will be held at Salle Aubert, 474 Aulneau St., Saint-Boniface, on Sunday, August 29 at 7:00 p.m. A funeral mass for Fr. Fortin, o.m.i. will be celebrated at the Salle Aubert, 474 Aulneau St., Saint-Boniface on Monday, August 30 at 10:30 a.m. with viewing beginning at 10:00 a.m. Interment will take place at Saint-Boniface cemetery.
