ISABEL MARGARET MARTIN June 1, 1909 - August 27, 2004 Isabel Martin passed away at the Victoria General Hospital as the result of a stroke. She is survived by her son, Robert Brian, daughter, Barbara Dale Lyons, granddaughters, Heather (Graham Gulden), Atlanta, GA, Christine (Andrew Ross), Toronto, and her beloved great grandson, Jordan Lyons. She is also survived by her sister, Kathleen Hunter, Edmonton, and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, Thomas and Florence Gallagher, sister, Ethel Francis and brother, Ted Gallagher. Isabel was born in Ballinamallard, Northern Ireland and emigrated to Canada at the age of 14 to be with her parents and siblings. Her heart, however, always belonged to Ireland and Mum made return visits at the age of 78 and 82 to visit her friend, Maeve Gray, in Carlingford. As a long time resident of Fort Garry, Isabel saw many changes over the last 60 years. She held several administrative positions and had many years with the Manitoba Medical Association and the University of Manitoba. She worked for Drs. Crust and Davidson at the Pembina Medical centre following her "retirement". She was an avid walker until a few years ago. The family would like to thank the nurses and support staff of the Interim Unit at the Misercordia Health Centre and of the 3rd floor at the Victoria Hospital for their care and compassion. Also thank you to Dr. R. Hayward for his care over the years. Cremation has taken place according to Isabels wishes. A memorial service will be held at Fort Garry United Church at a later date. Notification of date and time will be placed in this newspaper. No flowers please. Donations may be made in her name to the Arthritis Society, 105-386 Broadway Ave, the Winnipeg Humane Society, 5 Kent Road or to a charity of ones choice. Arrangements entrusted to: VOYAGE FUNERAL HOME & CREMATORIUM 1531 Pembina hwy 284-7500 Rest in Peace Mum.
