JOHN BRUCKSHAW 1926 - 2004 With sadness, we announce the passing of John Bruckshaw at his home at the age of 78 years. He is deeply mourned by his daughter Wendy Duncan (David) his son Peter Bruckshaw (Allison) Johns former wife, Barbara Kaleta; and five grandchildren, Jocelyn and Rachel Duncan, Jon, Tomas and Elinor Bruckshaw; his sister Gladys; and his nieces and nephews in England. He was predeceased by his parents and his older brother Tom. John was born in Manchester, England on January 12, 1926, the third child of John and Edith Bruckshaw. He excelled in soccer and boxing and was proud that he had been invited to be a professional boxer, but ultimately declined. He secured a technical college degree in electrical engineering in England. In 1955 he moved with his wife and daughter, Wendy, to Canada. He was directed by immigration authorities to take up residence with his young family in a cold windswept place called Winnipeg and happily remained there the rest of his life. John worked with the Cyclotron Division of the Department of Physics at the University of Manitoba; after 25 years of service he retired in 1986. John enjoyed pouring over his books and encyclopedia, making notes, satisfying his life-long interest in a broad range of subjects. He instilled in his children a similar thirst for knowledge and the importance of a good education. Cremation and an interment service, attended by family, has taken place.

Condolences & Memories (1 entries)

  • I’m so sorry to read of Uncle Jack’s passing in 2004. I remember him and Aunty Barbara with great fondness together with my cousins Wendy and Peter, so young when I knew them. Uncle Jack’s sister and my mother Gladys Gold (nee Bruckshaw) and known as Dys to us all sadly now passed away on 12th July, 2019 at the great age of 99 years old. She was, as far as I know unaware of her little brother’s passing as were we all. So sad to lose touch, so if Wendy or Peter read this, I love to hear from you.
