GEORGE EARL McKAY On Sunday, August 29, 2004, George McKay passed away at the Heritage Lodge Nursing Home at the age of 87 years. George was born in Winnipeg on August 11, 1917. He finished his school years at Gordon Bell High School. After the Second World War, George worked for many years in the grocery business, managing stores in Winnipeg, Kenora and in Thompson where he had worked for 25 years before retiring and moving back to Winnipeg in 1982. He served overseas for five years during the Second World War before being discharged from the R.C.A.S.C. in 1945. Georges favourite hobbies were fishing and tending to his cottage and boat at Point Lake in Thompson, MB. George was predeceased by his father George C. McKay in 1917; and by his mother Florence (Dumont) in 1953; his wife Helen in 1979; his brothers, Gordon, killed as a member of the R.C.A.F. of the Second World War in 1942, and Charlie in 2002; his sisters, Annette Pryor in 1998 and Irene in 2002. He is survived by his son James of Edmonton, AB; and by his sisters, Florence Salter and Yvonne OBrien. The family extends their thanks to the nurses and staff at the Heritage Lodge and to Dr. Ian Maharj. At Georges request, there will be no formal service.
