LAWRENCE CHRISTOPHER CANVIN Peacefully, at home, surrounded by the love of his family, on September 7, 2004, Lawrence Christopher Canvin entered into the Kingdom of Heaven. Lawrence was born on February 18, 1928 to Victor and Maria (nee Clouston) and resided most of his life in the Mapleton area. He grew up on the farm and attended school in Mapleton and Selkirk. Lawrence was a baker by trade working at Browns Bread, Selkirk, Westons Bakery, Winnipeg and later managed Southview Bakery, Selkirk. He loved meeting people while delivering products to various businesses in and around Selkirk and formed many friendships through the businesses. At home, Lawrence was a "baker" as well and became known for his bread, buns, doughnuts and bannock that were consumed and enjoyed by many who came through our doors. Lawrence married Pearl (Pat) Grantham on September 16, 1950. They resided on the farm west of Selkirk and spent many good times there with the family and extended family. Many a story can be told of Mom and Dad and the kids of the years on the farm. In later years Lawrence and Pat moved to Selkirk and then Winnipeg to be closer to the family. Lawrence is the proud father of eight children, Beth (Doug) Horton, Lorne (Kim), Kathy (Bruce) Hedge, Vicky (Tom) Major, Duncan, Danny (Janet), Jennifer (Bill) Konwalchuk, Andrew (Barb) and many more special "family members" who would lovingly call him "Dad". Lawrence and Pat have 16 grandchildren, Naomi (Malcolm) Howell, Erin, Malcolm, Iain, Kyla, Ellie, Jessica, Cheryl, Daniel, Steven, Patrick, Lesley, Jeff, Mark, Heather, Allison, and one great-grandchild Kira Howell. Lawrence also leaves to mourn his passing one brother, David (Marie) Canvin of Hartington, ON and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents and one sister Lillian Stewart. Following cremation, funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, September 10 at St. Clements Anglican Church, Mapleton, MB with Rev. Robert Brownlie officiating. Piper Scott Fidler and drummers, Cameron and Graham Fidler will play for Dad at his service. Honorary pallbearers will be his grandchildren. The family would like to extend special thanks to all homecare providers, especially Stella and Barb; Palliative Care nurses, especially Jennifer; Dr. Kevin Saunders for all his care and compassion and Dr. Randy Guzman for giving Dad and us six more years. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Manitoba Lung Association, 629 McDermot Ave., Winnipeg, R3A 1P6. Gilbart Funeral Home, Selkirk in care of arrangements.
