Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryMURDOCH COLIN RODERICK KIRTON April 12, 1921 to September 5, 2004 Sadly on Sunday, September 5, 2004, at the Victoria General Hospital, with his beloved wife at his side, Murdoch, age 83 passed away suddenly. Left to mourn his loss are his beloved wife and life partner of almost 59 years, Phyllis; daughters, Betty Erhart (late Ron), granddaughter Jan Chanas (Tim) and beloved twin great-grandsons, born shortly after his passing; and Barbara Lion (Garry) and beloved grandson Lukas. Murdoch is also survived by his sisters, Christina, Sadie and Winnie; brothers-in-law, Norman (Irene) and George (Red) and many, many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. He was predeceased by his beloved son-in-law Ron Erhart in May of 2004, as well as his mother and stepfather, mother-in-law, four sisters and three brothers. Born April 12, 1921, he grew up in the Petersfield area and remained there until September, 1939 when he enlisted and went overseas where he served his country until 1945. When he returned from overseas, he met a young lady who would later become his wife and life partner in a bond that would remain strong and unbroken until his passing. Murdoch and Phyllis would have been married 59 years on December 15, 2004. He held a few jobs until 1952 when he joined the workforce of what is now known as Canada Post and remained there until 1981 when he retired as a Supervisor. He was a quiet gentle man who put his family above all else. He watched his daughters grow with pride and when the time came, welcomed his sons-in-law into the family and always treated them as his own sons. He was Papa to his grandchildren and spent many happy hours with them teaching, playing and telling them stories. His love of the outdoors would find him off "hunting" somewhere - rifle replaced by binoculars and his camera watching the birds and wildlife from the road or through the car window in the countryside where he grew up. Fishing and spending time at the cottage with Phyllis and the family were among his pleasures until ill health no longer permitted it. He was a member of the Queens Own Cameron Highlanders, a Life Member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Selkirk Branch and a long time member of the Winnipeg Group. Please join us in celebrating his life with a memorial service on Friday, September 10 at 12:30 p.m., at Neil Bardal Inc., 984 Portage Ave., Aubrey Street entrance. A private family interment will follow. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in Murdochs memory to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Manitoba, 200 - 6 Donald St., R3L 0K6, or the Firefighters Burn Fund, 303 - 83 Garry St., R3C 4H9.
