MERLIN BANKS 1924 - 2004 Norman Merlin Banks passed away peacefully at Riverview Health Centre in Winnipeg on Tuesday, September 7, 2004 at the age of 80 years. Born August 20, 1924 at Calder, SK, he grew up on the prairies of Saskatchewan living at Calder, Senlac, Loverna, Kinley, Asquith and Kindersley. After a short stint in the army he joined Canada Post and spent the years until his retirement on various assignments with the company, settling in Winnipeg, MB. Merlin was predeceased by his father Rev. W. Banks and his mother Nellie Jane Banks (Wickens) of Saskatoon, SK; also a sister Fern Kahanoff and brother-in-law Sydney Kahanoff of Calgary, AB; and brother-in-law Ed Salloum of Saskatoon. Surviving are a brother Lloyd Banks (Helena) of Regina, SK and a sister Dell Salloum of Saskatoon; also a nephew Dale Banks (Claire) and nieces, Anita Tessier (Michael), Brenda Haddad (Shane) of Regina and Bonnie Salloum and Linda Epp (Tim) of Saskatoon. He is survived by numerous great-nieces and nephews of Regina and Saskatoon. Merlin was an avid sports fan and enjoyed many sports, especially curling. He was a member of Young United Church in Winnipeg and attended faithfully, and was a generous supporter of many charities and his church. He very much treasured the love and support of his family throughout the years. He will be sadly missed. A private graveside service and interment will take place at Woodlawn Cemetery in Saskatoon at a later date.
