J. EDWARD JAMES DAVIS Peacefully, on August 2, 2004 and surrounded by family in Spokane, WA, Edward Davis passed away at the age of 85 years. Dad was predeceased by the absolute love of his life and wife of 56 years, Louise Gillis Davis in 1998; by his dear sister Lucille Davis Huot; and by his parents, Sen. John Caswell Davis and Priscilla Guilbault Davis. He is survived by his sisters, Yvonne Davis Pratt of Bermuda Dunes, CA and Patricia Davis ONeill of Vancouver. He will be truly missed by his four sons and their families, the Edward L. Davis family of Spokane, daughter-in-law Sheryl, grandchildren, Kelly, Amber and little Ty. The Jonathan C. Davis family of Montreal, grandchildren, Deric, Tamara, Alex, Brittany and Kelsey. The James Caswell Davis family of Santa Monica, CA, daughter-in-law Carolina, granddaughter Sidsie, grandson Alberto and stepgranddaughters, Karla and Sulma. The Harold A.G.J. Davis family of Winnipeg, daughter-in-law Karma, grandchildren, Meggan (Ottawa), Nathanael (London), Georgina (Paris) and Pema. As well, he was cherished by his adopted daughter Leslie McWhirter and granddaughter Sundara of Chico, CA. Dads earliest memories included walks with his pioneer great-grandfather Victor Mager and hearing stories about Red River and early Winnipeg. History and books became lifelong passions. He grew up in St. Boniface earning a medal in French before taking engineering at the University of Manitoba. Always an avid swimmer, during the 1930s he held two provincial records, free style and backstroke, and maintained his torpedo form well into his 70s. Throughout his adult life, he was keenly interested in political economy, philosophy and really good fudge. In later years, he and Mom especially enjoyed visiting their friends and family split between Ajo, AZ and Bigstone Lodge on the Lake of the Woods. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, September 11 at 2:00 p.m. in The Old Stone Church, Little Britain United just past Lockport. Afterwards a celebration of life will be held at 3:30 p.m. in the Manitoba Maritime Museum in Selkirk.
