Although our hearts are filled with sadness on the passing of our father Harvey (John Bull) Desjarlais, we have chosen to celebrate his life. Harvey will be remembered as a man with dignity, strength, kindness, humility and a good sense of humour. He loved hunting, fishing and a good game of horseshoes. With his conversations in French he often spoke of fond memories of his chip stand (Russells) in St. Laurent, MB. His best friend and companion, was his loving dog Taffy. Harvey, an accomplished musician held weekly barn dances in St. Laurent. He loved to sing, play the fiddle and the guitar. He took great pride in the musical accomplishments of his children. He served overseas from 1944 - 1946. Harvey was predeceased by his two sons, Russell and Keith. He is survived by his daughters, Helen, Diane, Lucille, Barbara, Gloria, Audrey and Karen; sons, Victor and Lionel; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews; brother Eugene; and sister Rose. My grandfather was a respectable man, noble and full of life. His smile could light up a room. I fondly remember his voice, it boomed with power as I was just very young the last time I saw him. We used to go for lunch, grampa, my dad (Lionel), my brother and I. At the Chinese restaurant across the street from the freight house in Winnipeg. I miss him very much. Especially now that I have children he never got to meet in person. I know his spirit smiles down on them. Never forgotten, always loved and forever missed, take care Grampa, and please look after the many friends I have lost over the years. - Posted by: Olivia Desjarlais (Granddaughter ) on: Jul 13, 2013
