ORISE (ROY) DERKSEN It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of a special woman, wife, mother, sister and grandmother, Orise, at Concordia Hospital on September 9, 2004. Mom will be forever missed by her husband John; her children, Barry, Roy (Deborah) and Yvonne (John Burman) and her cherished grandchildren, Shane, Cory, Rodney, Kevin, Warren, Julia and Kellen; as well as her brothers, sisters, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Her mother Yvonne St. Germain, her father Dewey Roy and her infant sister predeceased her. She enjoyed sharing many fond memories of her life in Brandon and St. Pierre, MB with her treasured siblings, Ed (Adeline), Winnipeg; Leon (Joan), Penticton, BC; Marcel (Marion), New Westminster, BC; Leonard (Dolly), Pine Falls; Rosemary, Winnipeg; Bernice (Jerry Marshall), Calgary; Germain (Kay), Cowansville, QC; Julian (Pauline), Beauport, QC. A reunion of the Dewey and Yvonne Roy Clan fittingly took place in St. Pierre in June 2003. The family had an opportunity to congregate and share old stories and build new, lasting ones. Mom was a multi-talented wonder, but will be remembered by many as an expert maker of draperies. She spent painstaking hours sewing pleats by hand and could look critically at other drapes and know that hers were the best. She shared her skills and strong work ethic with The Drapery Workroom at The Bay Downtown and at Westwood Broadloom and Drapery. Not one to sit still for long, after her retirement, she decided to find employment as a homecare worker. She found herself tending to others that were not too far off from her own age, which reinforced to her the good genes with which she had been blessed. When it was her turn to receive care, she was grateful to be sent an angel in Linda Buffie who provided mom with so much more than homecare. The family wishes at this time to thank Linda for the care and camaraderie that she shared with mom these past few months. Thanks also to the nurses and staff at Concordia Hospital N3E for giving mom more than just medical care. Our family will never forget your tenderness and understanding during this very difficult time. Thank you to Auntie Rose for her diligence, support, love and doing what a sister does best. All of us, including mom, appreciated your being there, especially for her, over and over. None of us could have gotten through this without you. Mom will be remembered for her very understated sense of humour, her kindness to others, and for the dedicating of her life to her family. She was a truly selfless person that lived her life to provide for others. You have earned your rest, mom. You will never be forgotten. In respect for moms wishes, cremation has taken place. Mom has asked that any donations in her honour may be made to CancerCare. Those wishing to join the family to pay their respects to this special woman are welcome to do so at a memorial service at Glen Lawn Funeral Home, 455 Lagimodiere Blvd. near Bishop Grandin on Tuesday, September 14 at 2:00 p.m. Friends and family are invited to sign the book of condolences at www.obitbulkloaduariestoday.com Arrangements entrusted to: GLEN LAWN FUNERAL HOME 455 LAGIMODIERE BLVD. 982-7550
