NOREEN ISFELD May 10, 1922 - September 9, 2004 Peacefully with her family at her side, Noreen Isfeld passed away at the Gimli Community Health Centre after a brief struggle with cancer. Noreen is survived by her daughter Verna; son Wayne; his wife Patricia; and their daughters, Erin and Jamie; her two sisters; one brother; three sisters-in-law; numerous nieces, nephews and friends. She was predeceased by her husband in 1960 and more recently her oldest sister. Noreen was born in St. Boniface, MB to James and Olga Tingley, the third of five children. She lived there until she graduated from Normal School. Noreen was a teacher prior to her marriage to Trausti (Frosty) in August 1944, and returned to that profession a year before his death. During their brief time together, they worked side by side on the family farm, raising their two children. From 1959 to 1984 she taught at Winnipeg Beach School, Dr. George Johnson School and was both teacher and principal at Fraserwood School until retirement. After retirement Noreen enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her granddaughters. She enjoyed cooking and baking with them. Many hours were spent sewing for them, creating crafts with them and having meaningful discussions. Noreen spent the summers at the farm with her granddaughters and family, but winters were filled with travel. She so cherished her home away from home in Texas. She had joined the "Red Hat" Society and was taken with her new adventures. She believed in having a good education and encouraged her granddaughters to do their best and to pursue their dreams. Noreen was a lifelong member of the Husavik Ladies Aid. Her love of cooking, sewing, gardening, yard-"sailing" and travel kept her busy and active until late this summer. Noreen was a mother, educator, mentor, friend and pillar of our lives. She will be missed. At her request, cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, September 15 at 2:00 p.m. at Gilbart Funeral Home, Gimli, with Pastor George Johnson officiating. A private family interment will be held at the HOFI Cemetery in Husavik at a later date. In lieu of flowers, friends and family may wish to make a donation in Noreens name to CancerCare Manitoba, 675 McDermot Ave., Winnipeg, MB R3E 0V9, Evergreen Foundation (mark Gimli High School Scholarships) Box 1200, Gimli, MB R0C 1B0 or any charity of their choice.
