ELIZABETH (BETTE) MAE WARD (nee BLAIR) October 24, 1925 - September 10, 2004 On September 10, Bette passed away at Stonewall Hospital. She is survived by her husband Bill, with whom she would have celebrated 56 years of marriage in October of this year; her children, Terry, Laurie, John, Kevin and Kelly and her seven grandchildren, Adam and Allieren Ward, Kathleen, Scott and Kelly Beaton, and Simon and Allison Ward. Her life began on a farm in Rosser, MB, the eldest daughter of Mae (nee Lally) and David Blair. She was predeceased by her brothers, Jim and Fred and her sister Francis McDermid. She is survived by her sister Vivian Hamilton (Boyd) of Calgary and her brother Bill Blair and his wife Pat of Rosser. The profession she chose was teaching and she accepted a number of positions in rural Manitoba. She had many fond memories of her Norman School days and early teaching years. As the years went by, Mums faith became an ever-increasing source of guidance and comfort for her, as well as an essential part of her being. Were grateful to God for Mum/Grandma and that her pain is over. Mum showed all those around her, the reasoning to her beliefs and ways. The where for and the why in the things she did. It took my lifetime to understand her values, the meaning of life, the purpose of living. She found her way and tried to show us, so that we may join her when our time comes for that final journey. Mom, we always loved your patience, your encouragement and your love. All of your children and grandchildren will feel a shadow in your home, our home, following us and guiding our futures. There will be an empty chair at the table that will remind us of you for a long time. I want to hug you Mom and remember you the way you were before your sickness, full of life, energy, warmth, affection and encouragement. I know my children carry a big part of you with them throughout their lives. Our Grandma was the most selfless person Ive ever known. Ever since I can remember, others needs were always placed before her own. She was like a second mother to me and always seemed to know how to solve a problem or give some insightful advice. Some special memories with Grandma were bedtime stories, eating baking powder biscuits, swimming in the ocean at Fort Lauderdale Beach and visits at Middlechurch. Miss you and love you always. Our Grandmother prayed Her banquet table was at the Lords feet Strength and patience were her portion She did not hesitate to share her crumbs Serving what she had received so that This family, her beloved children Could feast and celebrate. A memorial service will be held on Monday, September 13 at 2:00 p.m. at the MacKenzie Funeral Chapel, Stonewall. In lieu of flowers, if friends so desire, memorial donations may be made to the Stonewall and District Health Centre or the Rosser United Church.
