MARIA de JESUS ALMEIDA It is with deep sadness that the family announces the passing of Maria de Jesus Almeida on September 11, 2004. Maria peacefully passed away at home at the age of 95. She will be lovingly remembered by her daughter Ilda Tome (Americo) grandsons, Luis (Barbara) and George; her sisters, Maria dos Anjos, Felizbela; and nieces and nephews in Portugal and Toronto. She was predeceased by her husband Abillio Almeida and four brothers. Maria was born in Ponte Fajao, Portugal, after her husband passed away she came to Canada to live with her daughter and to be closer to her grandsons. Maria was an excellent cook, she and her husband owned and operated a successful restaurant business for 40 years in Lisbon. She also loved to crochet/knit, play cards and always looked forward to her weekly outings to the Lions Club to be with her friends. The family expresses warmest gratitude and heartfelt thanks to all the family and friends (neighbours) for their support during this time. We also extend our thanks to the Paramedics for all their effort. Prayers will be held on Friday, September 17 at 8:00 p.m. at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main St. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, September 18 at 9:00 a.m. at Immaculate Conception Roman Catholic Church, 181 Austin St. with Rev. Fr. Jose Eduardo Medeiros officiating. Entombment to follow in Assumption Queen of Heaven Mausoleum. If anyone so desires, donations may be made in Marias memory to the Heart & Stroke Foundation.
