CARLOS ALBERTO DUARTE Tragically, on September 11, 2004 at the Health Sciences Centre in Winnipeg, with his loving family by his side, Carlos Alberto da Costa Duarte, beloved son, brother, cousin and friend was taken from us. Left to cherish his memory are his loving mother Fernanda of Portugal; his sister Fatima (Joaquim) his nephews, Marcello and Hugo of Portugal; brother Fernando (Dana) of Thompson; along with his many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends in Canada and Europe. Carlos was predeceased by his father Fernando in 1996. Carlos was born Arouca, Portugal on October 18, 1970. He grew up in Thompson, MB where he was employed by INCO Ltd. He loved nothing more than spending time with his family and friends, as well as his beloved dog Jersey. Carlos had a passion for hockey. He was an avid Montreal Canadiens fan (a true Hab.) Carlos also enjoyed soccer, his favourite team was Benfica. He will be remembered as an exceptional goalie in soccer and road hockey, as any of his opponents would tell you. Another of his favourite pastimes was fishing. Carlos was a hard working man who was always willing to lend a helping hand whenever it was needed, wherever it was needed. The family would like to thank Alvaro and Adelia Filipe, Tony and Marilia Marques, as well as all of our friends in Thompson and Winnipeg who have been there to support us. The family would also like to thank the staff of Thompson General Hospital, Thompson Fire and Emergency Services, RCMP Constable Andrea MacLeod and Cropo Funeral Chapel. Funeral services will be held on Friday, September 17 at 10:00 a.m. at Immaculate Conception Roman Catholic Church, 181 Austin St. in Winnipeg with Fr. Jose Eduardo Medeiros officiating and in Thompson on Monday, September 20 at 4:00 p.m. at the St. Lawrence Roman Catholic Church. Carlos will be laid to rest at his fathers side in Portugal. If friends so desire, donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, in honour of his father. Carlos, thank you for touching all of our lives, you will forever be in our hearts.
