ALICE UDOD Alice Udod, formerly of Winnipeg, wife of the late Very Rev. Dr. Hryhory Udod, passed away peacefully in Saskatoon, SK on Friday, September 10, 2004. Alice was born in Cando, SK, into the pioneer family of Egnat and Maria Levchenko, June 6, 1924. She completed her early education in Cando, and then went on to complete Normal School (teacher training) in Saskatoon. She then began her teaching career in the North Battleford area. In 1957 she met and married Hryhory Udod, a young theology student who had emigrated from Ukraine a few years prior. Together Alice and Fr. Hryhory ministered to various parishes of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of Canada for 38 years, most notably in Saskatoon at the Holy Trinity Cathedral where they served for 14 years and raised their young family. Alice will be remembered by many relatives, friends, teaching colleagues, and former students as an exceptionally talented and cheerful lady who was very devoted to God, her family, her many students over the years, and the Ukrainian Orthodox Church. In addition to teaching full time, Alice volunteered much of her spare time at parish Sunday schools, Ukrainian schools, various church committees, and Ukrainian Orthodox summer camps. She passed along to her sons, as well as many generations of students, an abundance of precious gifts, among these was a great love of Ukrainian music, both sacred and folk. It was difficult for her family and friends to watch Alice decline in the illness of Alzheimers over the past many years. We thank all who visited, prayed, and cared for her during her illness. We know she is now at complete peace in the loving arms of our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ. Alice leaves behind to cherish her memory her son Rev. Taras Udod and wife Sonia of North Battleford, SK; son Greg and wife Sonia; and precious grandchildren, Luke and Nicole of Winnipeg; sisters, Lily, Vera, and Olga; brothers-in-law, Bill and Ed; nieces and nephews, and many friends. She, along with the late Very Rev. Hryhory, leave behind for their family a tremendous legacy of devotion to Christs work in the Ukrainian community in Canada and a great sense of awareness and pride in ones heritage.
