HARVEY CHARLES SELKIRK (CHUCK) Peacefully on Monday, September 13, 2004 at the Gimli Community Health Centre, our beloved husband, father, grandpa, and great-papa of Pine Dock, MB passed away at the age of 67 with his loving family by his side. He leaves to mourn his passing his loving wife of 46 years Pearl; son Barry (Irene) daughters, Gwen (Murray) Olafson, Lorri (Michael) Monkman, Cheryl (Shawn) Loane, Dawn (Daryl) Monkman, Jacqueline (Richard) Monkman, and Susan (Dean) Klatt; 14 grandchildren; and two great-grandsons. Also mourning are his brothers, John (Joan) and George (Shirley) and his sister Shirley Spring; and sister-in-law Margaret Selkirk; as well as numerous in-laws, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. He was predeceased by his parents, Louise and William Selkirk; brother Alexander; and sister Isabel Mowat; as well as his brothers-in-law, Harry Spring and Wallace Mowat. Dad was born in Pine Dock on July 22, 1937 and he resided there until his passing. At the age of 14, he began to fishing with his father. He continued fishing until 1993 at which time he had a stroke that left him partially disabled and unable to continue the livelihood that he loved. In addition to fishing on Lake Winnipeg Dad had numerous other jobs some of which included fishing on Great Slave Lake, working at the family sawmill, cutting and scaling pulp for the Pine Dock Community Development, and serving as a community councillor for 18 years. On May 3, 1958, Charlie married his loving wife Pearl, in Riverton, MB and together they raised their family of seven children. Family was always very important to Dad, he always looked forward to family gatherings during the holidays and other special occasions. His greatest joys were his grandchildren, each of them were always in his thoughts. More recently, he anxiously anticipated visits from his two "little guys". Dads favourite pastimes were watching wrestling, hockey, and football on TV, and trading coffee for gossip. He always enjoyed a good fishing story. At Dads request, cremation has taken place. A memorial service to celebrate his life will be held on Saturday, September 18 at Pine Dock Community Hall at 2:00 p.m., with Pastor Neil von Gunten officiating. Interment will follow at the Pine Dock Cemetery. The urn bearer will be Barry Selkirk. Honorary urn bearers will be his grandchildren, Wesley, Karla, Robin, Sean, Teri, Derek, Eldon, Tracy, Nikki, Quentin, Bradley, Tasha, Tessa, and Alycia; and his great-grandsons, Braden and Jayse. We are grateful to our many relatives and friends who gave us support with their visits, prayers, and thoughts. We wish to express warm thanks to Dr. S.V. Patel, the nursing staff and the health care aides for their care and support. A special thank you to Dads home care worker, Gail Bell for her many years of service and friendship. Thanks also to Gordie, Linda, Gary, and Geordie for always being there when we needed a helping hand. Thank you Lavern for supporting us through Dads final days, your presence was comforting. In lieu of flowers, if friends so desire, donations may be made to the Pine Dock Ladies Auxiliary for Pine Dock Cemetery improvements. Dont weep for me my children Time has so quickly flown Ive lived the scene of time and change And watched my children grown Dont mourn too long, my children, Rejoice in memories of the past Ive gone to join the others Im going home at last.
