BERNICE MARIE ASHTON (nee LANNOO) On Wednesday, September 15, 2004 Mom passed away peacefully at the Grace Hospital after a long and courageous battle with cancer. Besides her three children, Cheryl (Huw), Raymond (Dixie), and Pamela, Mom leaves to mourn her passing, six grandsons, Jeffrey Vanrobaeys (Diane), Jason Vanrobaeys (Nicole), Casey (Megan), Andrew (Tim), Aaron and Izak; plus her beloved granddaughter Jamie; and her great-granddaughter Emma. Mom is survived by her mother Suzanne Lannoo; brother Maurice; sister Cecile; numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her loving sister and life-long friend Lorraine Caron in July of this year; and her father Edmund in 1950. Mom worked in the insurance business all of her adult life, retiring from Warren, Still and Johnstone in 1998. Stubborn, tenacious and kind is how we will all remember her. Full of fun and fight, Bernie lived her life in good times and bad. Her generosity of spirit will live long in the memories of those she leaves behind. The family would sincerely like to thank all of the people who made Moms last ten years more comfortable. A very special thanks to Dr. Patricia Harris and the staff at the Grace Hospital Oncology Department - your ongoing care and concern is deeply appreciated; the fifth floor staff of the Grace; Dr. Shahida Ahmed of CancerCare Manitoba; and Beverly C. Nord and the staff at the Winnipeg Regional Health Authority. At Moms request, cremation has taken place. A gathering of family and friends to celebrate Moms life will be held on Saturday, September 18 between 1:00 and 2:30 p.m. at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Ave. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Grace Hospital, 300 Booth Dr., Winnipeg, MB R3J 3M7 or CancerCare Manitoba, 1160-675 McDermot Ave., Winnipeg, MB R3E 0V9.
