Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryJOSEPHINE GIESBRECHT BARKMAN Josephine Barkman (nee Giesbrecht) peacefully went to heaven on Tuesday, September 14, 2004 at the age of 78 at Steinbach Bethesda Hospital. She will be lovingly remembered by husband Roland and his children, Garry, Sylvia, Kelly, Cathy, Guy, Shelley, Rhonda, Mark; her brother Ernest (Elma) and his children, Jo-Anne, Edward, Geordie, Kim; and grandchildren, Jack, Chad, Gavin, Stephen, David, Janna, Michael, Meagan, Krista, Jenna, Karli, Jessica, Abigail; sisters, Anna, Katie, Mary, Minna, Lottie; and her many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, Elizabeth and Gerhard; and her siblings, George, Jake, Albert, Edwin and Elizabeth. Josephine Giesbrecht Barkman graduated as an RN from the Victoria General Hospital earning the coveted General Proficiency Award. She became Director of Nursing at Bethesda Hospital in 1949 and went on to receive her Bachelor of Nursing Degree in 1971. In 1974 she was appointed Assistant Executive Director, Patient Care Services at the Concordia Hospital. In 1979 she became the Assistant Executive Director of the Seven Oaks Hospital. Josephine was known as the poetess of human goodness and kindness. Anyone who has known her is a better person for having made that contact. The accolade that she was Bethesdas Crown Jewel was very fitting. Josephine also touched the lives of her many family members and friends. She played a very important role in her brother Ernests family. She was Jo-Anne and Geordies special Aunt Jo. In 1997, Josephine found the love of her life, Rollie and they spent seven wonderful years together. Josephine has left many special memories for all to cherish. A special thank you to Dr. Grobler and the caring nursing staff at Bethesda. Viewing will be held on Thursday, September 16 from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Loewen Funeral Chapel, Steinbach, MB. Interment will take place prior to the memorial service at 9:00 a.m., Friday, September 17 at Heritage Cemetery, Steinbach. A service of remembrance will be held after interment at Grace Bible Church, Winnipeg at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor David Cornish officiating.
