FRANKLIN "DAVID" JOHN HIGHFIELD It is with great sadness, after a lengthy battle with Crohns disease and cancer with his mother, father, sister, and brother by his side, David passed away on September 13, 2004 at the age of 39 years. He leaves to mourn his children, Nic, Christine, and Cate; his wife Tanya. He also leaves to mourn his mother Joann (Dwayne), his father David Sr., brother Bill, and sister Kari (Rene) his favourite niece Meaghan (Megetta), nephew Stephan, his grandmother Madge, aunt Carol, many aunts, uncles and cousins. He was predeceased by his grandparents, John and Helen Maidens; his beloved grandfather Frank Highfield; his great-granny Jones; his aunt Leslie; and two very special friends, Singne and Jessie. David was born in Thompson, MB on April 14, 1965 and five months after his birth the family moved to Snow Lake where David grew up. After travelling between Alberta, British Columbia and Manitoba David finally decided Snow Lake was home sweet home and settled to raise his children. His children were the most important thing to him. His second love was fishing on Wekusko Lake, and camping at the falls. The May long weekend come rain shine or snow, David would pack up the tent and supplies to head out to the falls. He loved nothing better than getting out to the lake with a friend to paddle the lakes of northern Manitoba. Gardening was another passion of his and he loved arguing with his grandpa Frank about where flowers should be placed. One of Davids greatest accomplishments in his short time with us was at the age of 28 he decided he wanted to complete his high school education and receive his diploma. Against all odds he accomplished his dream. Cremation has taken place at Davids request and a memorial service will be held on Friday, September 17 at 2:00 p.m. at the Christian Centre in Snow Lake with Pastor Ken Neufeld officiating. The family would like to take the opportunity to thank the staff at the St. Boniface Hospitals 7th floor and especially the Surgical ICU for giving David the chance to die with dignity and the respect that he deserved. A very special thank your goes out to Dr. Yup for giving us the extra year and a half to spend with David. Thank you to Pastor Ken Neufeld for all the hours that you gave David in preparing him for the next leg of his journey. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in his name to the Canadian Cancer Society, Manitoba Branch 193 Sherbrook St., or to the Crohns Foundation 306-2265 Pembina Hwy., Winnipeg, MB.
