DOROTHY J. PARK (DOWSON) It is with deep sorrow we announce the passing on September 15, 2004 of a dear wife and mother at the Selkirk General Hospital after a courageous battle with cancer. Born in Aberdeen, Scotland in 1924, Dorothy came to Canada as a British war bride and settled in Moose Jaw, SK. She is mourned by her husband and best friend Albert (Al) of 58 years, and sons, Don (Judi) and Ken (Jo-Ann) of Winnipeg. She is survived by her special niece, Dorothy Jean of Aberdeen; nephew Douglas and family of Indiana; brother-in-law Herb (Lillian) of Calgary and niece Cathie of Sooke, BC. Also sadly missed by her faithful little poodle Julie. She was predeceased by her parents, Harry and Joan Dowson; sister Betty; brother-in-law Douglas Molyneux and nephew Greg Park. Dorothy graduated from Mile End High School and attended the Aberdeen Girls Grammar School earlier. She was employed at the Bank of Scotland and as well in her fathers store, Harry Dowson Clothier. She joined the British ATS war service, stationed at West Hallam, Derbyshire, England during the Second World War. Moving to Moose Jaw in 1946 and while raising her two sons, she became a member of the Kinette Club there, making many lifelong friends. Later, Dorothy moved to Lloydminster, Winnipeg, and finally to Selkirk. She enjoyed her duplicate bridge card friendships with those she met, enjoying the game she loved so much. She enjoyed travel, reading, world events and had a competitive spirit when it came to parlor games. Thanks is extended to Drs. Pat Harris, Demsis, and Davidson, and to the many faithful nurses and support staff for their kindness and care during the last 11 years. A special thanks to Rev. Christine Bridget for being her guiding light. At her request, a private family service will be held. In lieu of flowers any donations may be sent to the Humane Society or CancerCare of Winnipeg. We will miss you Mom, always. Gilbart Funeral Home, Selkirk in care of arrangements.
