SANDRA ANNE ALLERTON It is with deep sadness, we announce the peaceful passing of Sandra Anne Allerton on September 16, 2004, aged 68 years old, after a courageous battle with cancer. Sandra will be lovingly remembered by her husband Don of 44 years. Her sons and daughter-in-laws, Peter (Tracey), Chris (Victoria) and Andrew (Dana) will cherish their beautiful memories of Mom. Loving grandma of Trevor, Kyra, and Lachlan. She is also remembered by her sisters, Joyce (George) Van Wynsberghe of Pinawa and Sheila Nikiforuk of Edmonton and their families. Sandra was born on October 29, 1935, in Winnipeg to Thomas and Isabel Summerell. She went to various schools across Canada and graduated from St. Johns High School. Sandra began a career as an X-ray Technician at the Winnipeg Municipal Hospital until she stayed home to raise her family. Once her children began school she became a Teachers Assistant with Morse Place Jr. High School until her retirement. On September 12, 1960, she and Don married and began their wonderful life together. Her boys were the joy of her life. She was their biggest fan and supported them in their sporting activities, education and careers. With open and loving arms she welcomed her daughter-in-laws to the Allerton family and enjoyed her "girl talks." Moms face lit up whenever she saw her grandchildren and never did she leave them without tons of hugs and kisses and little treats. There were many stitches of love in the blankets and sweaters she created for her little ones. Mom was also overjoyed to hear the news that she would be a grandma again in the spring. We know shell be watching over all her grandchildren from above and keeping them safe. For over 40 years Sandra treasured spending time with her family at their West Hawk Lake cottage. She and Don made many wonderful lifelong friends from the lake. She was an avid reader and enjoyed crossword puzzles, sewing, knitting, baking and playing cards. Sandra and Don loved to travel and it was one of their favourite activities together. We would like to express our heartfelt appreciation to the staff of the Palliative Care unit of St. Boniface Hospital for their compassionate care of Mom and their support for us as a family. Thank you to Dr. Bergen, Dr. Cook and the staff at CancerCare Manitoba. Our family is also grateful for the tremendous support received from our families, friends and coworkers during this time, we are truly blessed. In lieu of flowers and if friends so desire, donations in Sandras memory may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society Manitoba Division "Breast Cancer Research" (193 Sherbrook St., R3C 2B7) or to the St. Boniface Hospital and Research Foundation, Palliative Care Endowment Fund (409 Tache Ave., Room D-1003, R2H 2A6).
