RONALD BARRY SHILLIDAY Peacefully on Thursday, September 16, 2004, Ronald Barry Shilliday passed to the Grand Lodge above. He is survived by his loving wife Shirley; his children, Tom of Calgary, AB and Laurie Romanica (David) their children, Emma and Noah of Winnipeg. Also left to cherish his memory are his stepchildren, Sharlene Wakaluk (Shaun), their children, Breanne, Erin and Kaylee of Winnipeg, Sharon Suchy (Rob) of Strathroy, ON and Brad Suchy of Winnipeg; his younger brother Bob of Edmonton, AB; mother-in-law Jean Kane of The Pas, MB; along with numerous nieces, nephews and in-laws. He was predeceased by his parents, Victor and Francis Shilliday; his brother Pat; and father-in-law Terry Kane. Barry was born in Winnipeg, MB. He moved to Port Arthur, ON (now Thunder Bay) at a young age with his parents and older brother Pat. There he attended local schools and did what most youngsters of his age do. Little League baseball, Boy Scouts, hockey, skiing and fishing. While in high school, Barry took a part time job with the Telegraph Department of CN Rail, and upon completing high school, transferred to CN Rail in the running trades. After 38 years with CN, Barry took an early retirement, having attained the position of Conductor Locomotive Operator. Barry was a member of Port Arthur Masonic Lodge, A.F. and A.M. and in 1977 at the young age of 32, served as the Worshipful Master. Barry was an avid runner and upon moving back to Winnipeg, he entered the Manitoba Marathon and Duluth Marathon for a total of 13 times, completing every race. His personal best time was 3 hours, 14 minutes. He also loved to play baseball and hockey. In 2002, Barry and Shirley moved to the shores of beautiful Canyon Lake, ON where they built their new home together. They loved to work in their yard and enjoyed the wonderful view and peacefulness of Canyon Lake. These times were shared by relatives on both sides of their families. Barry will be sadly missed by his loved ones, friends, neighbours and former coworkers all too numerous to name, but we want you to know how special your visits were to him. The family would like to thank the many caregivers, especially Dr. Gagnon and his staff for their kindness and compassion. Special thanks to Michele Dorfman of the Community Care and Access Centre, and Lisa Shaw of ComCare Health Services who made Barrys last days so comforting. Cremation has taken place, and in compliance with Barrys wishes, no service will be held. In lieu of flowers, a charitable donation in Barrys memory to CancerCare Manitoba, 675 McDermot Ave., Winnipeg, MB R3E 0V9 would be gratefully appreciated. We wished you enough sun to keep your attitude bright. We wished you enough rain to appreciate the sun more. We wished you enough happiness to keep your spirit alive. We wished you enough pain so that the smallest joys in life appeared much bigger. We wished you enough gain to satisfy your wanting. We wished you enough loss to appreciate all that you possessed. We wished you enough "hellos" to get you through the final "Good-bye". Barry, thank you for being in our lives, you will forever be in our hearts. Rest in Peace.
