It was only a short whole ago that I heard of Gerry's passing. In the early 1990s I was a police officer serving the city of Nepean, Ontario. In 1995 we amalgamated to form the Ottawa Carleton Regional Police Service. During that time I was assigned liason to the Jewish community of Nepean. I had the absolute honour to meet Gerry whom represented the Ottawa Jewish community at that time. We immediately started a friendship that served the community but also in a personal manner. We discussed many issues including my enlightenment to learning of my Jewish ancestry. Tantemount to our relationship was to enhance a safe environment for community members. Gerry left Ottawa for Winnipeg and we never had more opportunity to continue our relationship. I am truly saddened by now knowing of Gerry's passing but also honoured by having known Gerry in the roles which allowed us to meet and share insight into the Jewish community in Ottawa and how to best serve within our trusted professions. I remember you well Sir. - Posted by: Robert de Hartog (Professional and personal friend) on: Jul 05, 2020
