Date of Passing: Sep 19, 2004
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryROBERT BOB GEORGE BUTLER It is with deep sadness that we announce the death of our husband, father and grandfather, Poppa, on Sunday, September 19, 2004, at the Health Sciences Centre at the age of 62 years. He will be greatly missed by his wife, Barbara (Sopko) children, Judi (Mike), David (Pam), Ken (Kaz) grandchildren, Shae and Shaun (Judi), Jordan and Sydney (David), Malcolm (Ken) as well as the family dogs, Jake, Katie, Austin and especially Rex. Bob was born June 7, 1942. He was an outstanding athlete. Bob played high school football and won many awards for track and field. He had a great appreciation for the spacious prairies where you can see the horizon 360 degrees. Bob loved to spend time at the Sopko farm at Libau; hunting, fishing and after retirement life on the charm (farm) and at the lake. His many careers included; water metre reader for the City of St. James, Federal Corrections Officer, St. James Fire Department in June 1967 and then in January 1974, the City of Winnipeg Fire Department. In January 1998, Bob retired from the Fire Department at the rank of Captain. Nothing brought a bigger smile to his face or twinkle in his eyes as the sight of his grandchildren. Dad, we love you and will miss you. At Bobs request, no formal funeral service will be held. A private family interment will take place at a later date. Our many thanks go to the nurses and doctors of GD 4 at the Health Sciences Centre, family, friends and coworkers for their kindness and support. If so desired, donations in Bobs memory may be made to the Fire Fighters Burn Fund, Diabetes Foundation of Manitoba, Heart & Stroke Foundation, Kidney Foundation or to a charity of ones choice. Bob was one of the nicest men I ever worked with. We shared a ton of laughs. I left the department the year before Bob passed. Rest In Peace Bobby. - Posted by: Kenneth McMullen (Fellow firefighter) on: Aug 16, 2022
