HARRY GEMBEY Peacefully after a short illness, Harry passed away on Sunday, September 19, 2004 at Seven Oaks Hospital at the age of 82. Harry was born in Poland June 20, 1922 and moved to Winnipeg with his family at the age of five. He grew up in the north end of Winnipeg, where he worked as a candy maker until he joined the Canadian Armed Forces in 1943. He served overseas during the Second World War and was discharged from the Lake Superior Regiment in 1945. After the war he met Agnes, fell in love and was married in 1949. Harry and Agnes had three sons, Ken, Eric and Barry. He was employed at the Royal Bank and later at Temro where he retired in 1988. He enjoyed golfing during his retirement and was an avid hockey fan. He could always be found in front of the TV watching Hockey Night in Canada on Saturday nights. Harry and Agnes had numerous pets and enjoyed going for long walks with their dogs. Harry was predeceased by his parents, Peter and Katherine; his brother Nick; and his daughter-in-law Diane. Harry is survived by his wife of 55 years, Agnes; sons, Ken (Lori), Eric and Barry (Kim) grandsons, Curtis, Matt and Scott; and his brother George (Stephanie) as well as nieces and nephews. The family would like to give special thanks to Dr. Lezack. Funeral service will be held on Wednesday, September 22, 2004 at 11:00 a.m. at Glen Eden Funeral Home with interment and reception to follow. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to CancerCare Manitoba.
