PEARL PATRICIA CANVIN Peacefully at home, surrounded by her loving family, on September 21, 2004, 2 weeks after her beloved husband Lawrence, Pearl Patricia Canvin (nee Grantham) went to join her Lord and husband in paradise. Pat was born June 2, 1926 to Edom and Elizabeth Ann Grantham (nee Snooks) and grew up attending school in Winnipeg. Pat married Lawrence Canvin September 16, 1950 and resided for many years on the farm in the Selkirk area. Pat was the ultimate survivor, who was able to overcome many obstacles, including the loss of her arm to cancer at the age of 25. The word impossible was not part of Moms vocabulary as she proved time and time again throughout her life by raising eight children. Life on the farm was not filled with the conveniences of today but Mom and Dad persevered and made life the best for their large family. Mom was never at a loss providing for the kids, keeping house and making dinner for the family. She opened her heart and home to many others.... loving and caring for them as if they were her own. Pat worked at Dominion Rubber (Winnipeg) prior to marriage and was a housewife for many years until the children were in school. Mom then worked at Middlechurch Home in the housekeeping department for many years, retiring in 1989. Pat was the loving mother to eight children, Beth (Doug) Horton, Lorne (Kim), Kathy (Bruce) Hedge, Vicky (Tom) Major, Duncan, Danny (Janet), Jennifer (Bill) Konwalchuk and Andrew (Barb). Pat and Lawrence have 16 grandchildren, Naomi (Malcolm) Howell, Erin, Malcolm, Iain, Kyla, Ellie, Jessica, Cheryl, Daniel, Steven, Patrick, Lesley, Jeff, Mark, Heather, Allison and one great-grandchild Kira Howell. She also leaves to mourn her passing brother-in-law David (Marie) Canvin of Hartington, ON; special nephew Gordon (Bernice) Spearing, along with numerous nieces, nephews and special friend of 71 years Audrey (Harold) Wooley. Pat was predeceased by her parents; brothers George, Preston and Earl, and sisters, Edith Bell and Lillian Spearing. Pat was the granddaughter of the late Ginger Snooks. Following cremation, a memorial service will be held on Friday, September 24 at 3:00 p.m. in the St. Clements Anglican Church, Mapleton, MB with Rev. Godfrey Mawejje officiating. Piper Scott Fidler and drummers Cameron and Graham Fidler will play for Mom at her service. Soloist will be Jack Alexander and honorary pallbearers will be her grandchildren. The family would like to extend special thanks to all homecare providers, especially Stella and Barb; Palliative Care nurses, especially Jennifer; Dr. Sarah Kredentser for her care, compassion and understanding. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, 193 Sherbrook St. Winnipeg, MB, R3C 2B7, or the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, 1101-191 Lombard Ave., Winnipeg, MB, R3B 0X1. DONT WAIT When I quit this mortal shore, And mosey around the earth no more, Dont weep, dont sigh, dont sob, I may have struck a better job. Dont go and buy a large bouquet for which youll find it hard to pay: Dont mope around and feel all blue; I may be better off than you. Dont tell the folks I was a saint or any old thing that I aint; If you have jam like that to spread, please hand it out before Im dead. If you have roses, bless my soul, just pin one in my button hole while Im still alive and well today. Dont wait until Ive gone away. Gilbart Funeral Home, Selkirk in care of arrangements.
