PHOEBE FLORENCE BLAIR Peacefully, on Monday, September 20, 2004 at Grace General Hospital, Phoebe Florence Blair (Andrews) passed away with her family at her side. Phoebe is survived by her brother Kenneth Andrews (Temecula, California) daughters, Gail (Peter) Smith of Winnipeg, Margaret (Ken) Ball of Port Dover; son James of Toronto; grandchildren, Michael (Geraldine), Andrea (Brett), and Meghan Smith, Ryan, GayleAnne, and Lindsay Ball; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband David (2001) parents Mary and Thomas Andrews; brothers, George and James; and sister Beryl. Born in Winnipeg, Phoebe grew up on a farm in Blackdale, MB, just north of Winnipeg. In 1943 she enlisted in the Womens Royal Canadian Naval Service and was stationed in London, England for the duration of the Second World War serving as a Leading Wren (L/Wren W1771). Phoebe began her working career with the Great West Life Assurance Company and Air Canada in the reservations department. After raising her family, she was employed by the Provincial Government in the Payroll Audit Department until 1979. Phoebe kept herself active during her retirement years; travelling with her husband and attending the University of Winnipeg Seniors Program from 1979 to 2003. Family was very important to Phoebe. She was proud of her children and grandchildren, their accomplishments, and followed their career paths with great interest. We would like to express our heartfelt appreciation to the staff at Deer Lodge Centre, Tower 4, for their compassionate care for Mom during the past year. Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held on Saturday, September 25, at Churchill Park United Church, 525 Beresford Ave. at 2:30 p.m. with Rev. P. Peters Derry officiating. Phoebe will be greatly missed by her family and friends. In lieu of flowers, if so desired, donations may be made in Phoebes memory to the Winnipeg Humane Society or a charity of ones choice.
