SHEILA WENONAH BJARNARSON It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Sheila Bjarnarson on September 23, 2004, after a courageous battle with cancer. Sheila will forever be missed by her husband of 43 years, George; and her three daughters, Leah (Rob Malech), Christie and Beth. Also left to mourn her loss are brothers, Russell (Doris) Moffat, Garvin (Peggy) Moffat; sister Irma (Dennis) Aubertin; sisters-in-law, Inez Rinn and Mary Mull; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Sheila was predeceased by her father Herbert Moffat in 1960; her brother Earl in 1970; and her mother Hazel in 1990. Sheila was born on April 25, 1936, in Gladstone, MB, and grew up in Lakeland, MB. She carried on a family tradition of teaching by attending Normal School in Winnipeg in 1953 followed by employment at Amana School in 1954. In 1955, Sheila worked for the Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce in Winnipeg and then spent the following two years working for the Department of National Defense in Churchill. She then returned to Winnipeg where, in addition to working at Assiniboia Downs from 1971 to 1979, she continued a career in banking with Bank of Montreal until illness forced her to retire in December 2003. Sheila treasured her family more than anything else in this world. Her happiest times included spending summers at Grand Beach, and baking and preparing for Christmas each year. She loved to travel, with highlights being a Caribbean cruise, Las Vegas, Disney World, and especially a family vacation in Hawaii. Sheila volunteered as a parent aide at Bedson School, and she canvassed for years for the Heart and Stroke Foundation. She also enjoyed many seasons playing in a bowling league, and when she was 55 she decided to learn how to swim. The family wishes to extend sincere thanks to the staff at CancerCare (Health Sciences Centre) and Grace Hospital for their comforting support. A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, September 28 at 3:00 p.m. at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Ave. Interment and reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to CancerCare MB, 1160 - 675 McDermot Ave., Winnipeg, MB R3E 0V9, or the Grace Hospital, 300 Booth Dr., Winnipeg, MB R3J 3M7. We could not have asked for a more wonderful, thoughtful, caring and kind wife, mother, sister, aunt and friend. She will be greatly missed. "We love you, Mom. See you later." Arrangements entrusted to: CHAPEL LAWN FUNERAL HOME CREMATION AND RECEPTION CENTRE 885-9715 Family and friends are invited to sign the Book of Condolence at www.chapellawn.mb.ca
