BLANCHE MADELINE MATHEWSON (nee CLARE) On the morning of Thursday, September 23, 2004, Blanche passed away peacefully, in the care of the "angels", at the Grace General Hospital. We are so grateful to Dr. J. Joshua and staff of 3 North. Blanche was given outstanding care, her wishes followed with compassion, giving her comfort and dignity to the end. Blanche moved to Winnipeg with her family from Orillia, ON. In those days people did not have monetary things. War and Depression were on their minds, but they made their own fun. The stories and pictures we will cherish forever. Later in life, Blanche moved to Lions Place where sisters, Pearl, Dot and Dean were living. Helen from Toronto visited them quite often. She was predeceased by her mother Olive; father Joe; sisters, Pearl, Dot, Dean and Helen; brothers, Norman, Alan; and sister-in-law Simone. Blanche is survived by her brother Walter; and sister-in-law Mary. Nieces and nephews were very special to her. She appreciated their phone calls and including her in family events. As a young girl, Blanche worked at Minaki Lodge, Eatons Ladies Shoe Dept. and until the last day at the Winnipeg Tribune, later returning to Minaki with her new husband, Joe, for their "honeymoon". She met Joe at a dance at Winnipeg Beach, returning home on the "moonlight" train, later marrying in 1941. Blanche and Joe moved many times finally settling in Windsor Park. Many happy times were spent at the lake and on Boulder Bay, especially Christmas Eve. Mom loved sports. She traveled with Joe to many old time hockey games in Canada and the USA. Blanche and Joe especially enjoyed following son Randy in hockey and baseball. Baseball became a passion. Helen and Blanche would be watching television and talking on the phone about the games. Blanche enjoyed her grandchildren and great-grandchildren; attending sporting events, concerts, teas, dance recitals and birthdays. Mom loved anything small and always said "Isnt that cute." Bob always made a point of finding the cutest little things for her. She appreciated Bobs help with the big stuff. She was predeceased by her husband Joe; son Randy; and dog Jessie. She is survived by daughter Bonnie (Bob) granddaughter Brenda (Wayne) grandson Timothy (Lori) granddaughter Shanley (Terry) of BC; great-grandchildren, Tyler, Ricky, Ashley, Dayton, Landon and Brianne. In keeping with Blanches wishes, no formal funeral service will be held. A private family interment will take place at a later date. Mom you are finally free of pain You are one strong Lady. Hope you meet Frank up there, You can dance to... "I Did It My Way." We wish to thank the many Home Care staff; Blanche, Dion, Bev and Dora. You cared and made Mom laugh. To our family; Holly and the children, the visits and phone calls were so supportive. Norma, Linda, Paul and Dr. Diane, your visits to Mom helped so much. Tim and Brenda, thanks for being there for me. Thank you Shanley, for your visit, it put us all in the "pink" and got a wink out of Gram. If friends so desire, donations in Blanches memory may be made to CancerCare Manitoba, P.O. Box 2248, Stn Main, Winnipeg, MB R3C 9Z9.
