Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryMARY HELEN GRACE MORAN (nee FLOOD) Our mother, Helen, died peacefully at home on 4th Street NE, Portage la Prairie on Saturday, September 25, 2004. Helen was predeceased by her husband Bedford in December, 1997. Mom will be lovingly remembered by her five children, Hugh Moran (Betty-Jean Checkley), Eleanor Rayl (Eddie), Alice Spencler (Bob), Tom Moran (Melody), and Mary-Louise Moran; ten grandchildren, Angela Moran, Ryan Moran, Jacqueline Silver; Leah Rayl, Jodie Rayl, Katie Rayl, Dan Spencler, Brian Spencler (Katherine), Mandy Moran and Tyler Moran (Melissa Lockhart) five great-grandchildren Cassandra Moran, Taylor Redmond, Trenton Silver, Emma Spencler, Roland Spencler; brothers, Cyril Flood and Charles Flood; along with many nieces, nephews and lifelong friends. Hugh, Eleanor, Tom and Alice want to express our heartfelt gratitude to our sister Mary-Louise for her loving, genuine and compassionate care which allowed Mom to enjoy the comfort of her home. We are forever indebted to Mary-Louise for her unwavering commitment to our Mother. Helen was born in Charleswood on December 15, 1921. Upon graduating from school, she was employed by MacDonald Aircraft in Winnipeg and was the first secretary-manager of the Charleswood Credit Union. In 1944 she joined the Royal Canadian Navy and was stationed in Halifax and Ottawa. Mom dedicated her life to her family, and presided over a home that housed a family business which saw literally hundreds of people set foot in its kitchen over a span of 50 years. In the mid 1960s Helen found a passion. Golf! A left-hander, she was a member of the Portage Golf Club and the Southport Golf Club and a founding member of the Ruth Guchion Memorial and the Portage la Prairie Ladies Left-Handed golf tournaments. Helen was recently recognized for her 55 years of service to the Catholic Womens League. She was very proud of her involvement with the Wednesday afternoon CWL group that provided maternal support for many years to young residents at the Manitoba Development Centre during the 1960s and 70s. Many years ago mom made a commitment to continued sponsorship of children through World Vision Canada. She was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion and the Fort la Reine Museum Auxiliary. Prayers for Helen will be at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September 28 with the funeral mass on Wednesday, September 29 at 1:30 p.m. Both will be held at the Good Shepherd Roman Catholic Church, 1125 Saskatchewan Ave. East. Donations may be made in memory of Helen Moran to Sunset Palliative Care, Box 92, Portage la Prairie, MB R1N 3A7 or the charity of your choice.
