IAN CONRAD LASSON
Date of Passing: Sep 27, 2004
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryIAN CONRAD LASSON Suddenly, just after midnight on Monday, September 27, 2004 with his parents holding his hand, Ian passed away at the age of 34. Youngest son of Ed and Helga of Portage la Prairie, Ian also leaves behind his "little" brother Dale and wife Cheryl of Oak Bluff along with many aunts, uncles and cousins that he held so dear. Ian was born and raised in the Langruth district. He faced many challenges throughout his childhood, with health problems and learning difficulties, but never complained, always giving his best effort. After graduation from high school, he moved to Gladstone for several years where he took up work at Third Crossing Manor. In 1991, Ian moved to Portage la Prairie and got his own apartment, working for S.A.Ms odd job squad and the Portage Mall. Shortly thereafter, his mom and dad moved to Portage. It was Ians decision to move in with them so he could look out for them and help with what ever was needed anytime he could. Since 1994, Ian has worked as a Portage la Prairie Landmark and treasure to every single person he ever greeted at Wal-Mart. His beaming smile and quick wit met each customer that passed his way. He made time for one and all and was adored by all the children while their parents shopped. If the store thought they had problems with shoplifters before, they will notice a drastic void where their gentle giant once stood... Ians greatest passion was the countless hours spent hunting, fishing and tinkering outside with Dad, Uncle Joey and all his friends and cousins. He took great pleasure in relaxing with his music CDs and videos and most recently, was so proud for having gotten his own DVD system. He drew and was drawn to both children and animals alike; these gentle creatures saw one of their own, for they all sensed his gentle ways and kind demeanour. What he may have lacked in educational ability, he overflowed with in compassion, a sharp sense of humour and a lot more common sense than supposed highly educated folk.... Visitation will be held on Thursday, September 29 at 7:00 p.m. at McKenzies Portage Funeral Chapel in Portage la Prairie. Memorial service will be held on Monday, October 4 at 1:30 p.m. at Trinity United Church, 15 Tupper St. S., Portage la Prairie with The Rev. Norman Collier officiating. In memory of Ians love for children and all the time spent during his childhood, if friends so desire, donations may be made to the Childrens Miracle Network (Childrens Hospital of Winnipeg) CE 501, 840 Sherbrook St., Winnipeg, MB R3A 1S1. A tree will be planted and cared for in memory of Ian by McKenzies Portage Funeral Chapel who are in care of arrangements. 857-4021 www.mckenziesportagefuneralchapel.com
