GERALD RICHARD JOSEPH COBBE Peacefully on Monday, September 27, 2004 at the Douglas Campbell Lodge, Gerald Cobbe of Portage la Prairie, beloved husband of Doreen Cobbe passed away at the age of 77 years. Funeral service will be held at the Trinity United Church on Saturday, October 2 at 2:00 p.m. with the Rev. Margaret Scott officiating. Interment will follow at Evergreen Memorial Gardens. Gerald was born in Kenton, MB on March 22, 1927. His parents, Alice and Whittle Cobbe; brothers, Howard and Garry; sisters, Helen Cameron and Margaret Irwin, predeceased him. Left to mourn his passing is his wife of 56 years, Doreen; sons, Murray (Connie), Brian (Merle) and daughter Carla (Joe) Bulback; five grandchildren, Gerald, Sheri and Reece Cobbe, Ryan and Sarah Bulback and four great-grandchildren. Gerald was raised in Makaroff, MB until 1939 when his family moved to MacGregor. He moved to Carman in 1946 to pursue the plumbing trade. In 1954 the family moved to Portage where he founded Cobbes Plumbing and Heating. He was very involved in the Community as a member of the Rotary Club, City Council and was a Member of Parliament from 1968 to 1972. He served as Assistant Grain Commissioner for Manitoba from 1973 to 1979. Gerald loved playing sports, in particular baseball with the Carman Cardinals, MacGregor Cubs and the "Liniment League Champion Buckleys". He was a keen curler with his brother Garry, attending many regional and provincial bonspiels. In retirement he enjoyed his winters in Weslaco, TX golfing with his friends. The family would like to thank the staff of the Douglas Campbell Lodge for their love and care during his final years.
