Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryKATHERINE LOWES (nee DEGELMAN) 1909 - 2004 It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Katherine, our dear sister and aunt, aged 95 years, on Wednesday, September 29, 2004. She was predeceased by her husband Norman; her parents Albert and Anna Degelman; also her sisters, Mary Elliot, Rose Kinsella, Cecilia Moore; her brothers, Edward and Carl. She is survived by her brothers, John (Ruby) of Kelowna and Leo (Doreen) of Winnipeg. Katherine was born in Mihalko, Czechoslovakia, on November 8, 1909. She came to Canada in 1922 with her parents and family. They resided in South Transcona where she attended school. Later she worked in Winnipeg as a domestic and during the Great Depression, she moved to Toronto and found work as a hostess in a restaurant. In 1941 she met and married Norman Lowes and lived in Toronto and later moved to North Bay, ON. In 1970 Katherine returned to Manitoba and resided in Transcona and later in Winnipeg. She was a very independent, generous and caring person. She enjoyed her time with friends and family - playing crib and bingo. Katherine loved animals, especially dogs, and was a supporter of the Humane Society. We wish to thank the staff, nurses and caregivers of Vista Park Lodge for their kindness and support. At her request, cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held on Friday, October 8 at 2:00 p.m. at the Transcona Funeral Chapel, 1800 Day St., with Chaplain Paul Martin officiating. Burial at Transcona Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to the Humane Society or a charity of ones choice. Transcona Funeral Chapel in care of arrangements.
