Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryRUBY ELEANOR (ORRIS) ALLEN Peacefully, on October 1, 2004, at West Park Manor Personal Care Home. Ruby was born on October 19, 1910 and raised in Winnipeg along with her brothers Harold, Stanley and Lloyd. She graduated from the University of Manitoba in 1932 with a Bachelor of Arts degree. She married William (Fred) Allen on October 15, 1938 and they enjoyed 52 years of marriage until Freds passing in October, 1990. Ruby and Fred had three children, Donna, Sherry and Frederick, whom they raised in Winnipeg, Wisconsin, and New York. They returned to Winnipeg for their retirement and to be closer to family members. Ruby was very active at St. Andrews (Elgin) United Church, and was a 50 year member of the Order of the Eastern Star. She was a patron and supporter of the arts and enjoyed many years of attending performances of the opera, ballet and symphony both in Winnipeg and New York. She loved singing, dancing, playing the piano and travelling. Rubys family struggled for many years with her battle with Alzheimers disease. A once lively, vivacious and sociable lady, the effects of Alzheimers slowly deteriorated her health and the connection to those around her. Ruby is survived by her daughter Donna Atkinson of Gurnee, IL; daughter Sherry Ripak; son Frederick Allen (Sandy) grandchildren, Brittany, Daniel, Alexandra, Benjamin, Christian; great-grandchildren, Midori and Sebastian; many nieces and nephews. The family would like to give special thanks to Rubys friends who supported her and the family for many years. Thank you to the staff of West Park Manor Personal Care Home for their years of dedicated and compassionate care given to Ruby. A Celebration of Rubys life will be held on Saturday, October 9, 11:30 a.m., Hotel Fort Garry, Gateway Room (reception to follow). In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer Society of Manitoba or to a charity of ones choice. Cremation has taken place. Private family interment at Elmwood Cemetery.
