DR. KEVIN JOSEPH RAYMOND FORD M.D., F.R.C.P. (C) Peacefully, surrounded by his family, Kevin Ford passed away on Tuesday, October 5 at St. Boniface General Hospital. He would have been 83 on October 12. Kevin will be sadly missed and fondly remembered by his wife Betty of 58 years; by his children, Madeline (Lorne Colish), Christopher, Angela (Russell Ross), and Patricia (Peter Tsekouras) and by 13 grandchildren, Jane, Anne, Will and Jack; Rebecca (Michael Dymond), Matthew (Clara), Kate and Michael; Leah and Anna; Jacqueline, Philip and Simon. He is survived by his sister, Maureen, and predeceased by his brother Brian. Kevins passing is also mourned by Ruth Biggar, Marion Lake, and Richard Finkel. Kevin was born in Douglas, Isle of Man, U.K., on October 12, 1921. Upon graduation from medicine at Manchester University in 1946, he served for two years in the Royal Air Force, and then practised psychiatry in Manchester and Cambridge until immigrating to Canada in 1957 with his young family. After two years in St. John and Fredericton, Kevin and family headed west, settling in Winnipeg in 1960. Kevin then joined the Winnipeg Clinic, and remained on staff there until his retirement in January 1997. Beyond a full professional life, Kevin has always pursued a variety of interests, from tennis to foreign languages, from writing his autobiography to piloting Cessnas, and skippering his own boat on Lake Winnipeg, Lake of the Woods, and in the British Virgin Islands. In his retirement years, Kevin was a trophy-winning snooker player and keen wine-taster, practising these arts at the Manitoba Club, and in three Winnipeg wine societies. Just last winter he enrolled in piano lessons at the Manitoba Conservatory of Music and Arts. He was fond of ocean cruises with his wife Betty, and fanatic about Manchester United Football. To relax, Kevin liked nothing more than a fine cigar and some good jazz. Although he cherished his privacy, he was just as happy entertaining family and friends with stories, antics, and lively debate; sadly, gatherings will now be quieter. Funeral mass will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, October 8, at the Holy Rosary Church, 510 River Ave. Prayers and visitation at 8:00 p.m. Thursday, October 7 at the Holy Rosary Church. Flowers gratefully declined, in lieu of donations to your charity of choice. BARDAL FUNERAL HOME & CREMATORIUM 843 Sherbrook Street, Winnipeg, 774-7474 Condolences: www.bardal.ca
