JOAN ANNE SMITH (nee CLARK) After a courageous battle with cancer, Joan peacefully passed away on October 5, 2004, with her family and close friends by her side. Joan is survived by her husband Ed; son Trevor (Karen) Smith; daughter Karen (Doug) Griffin; and grand-children, Kelby, Cole, Marett and Connor. She is also survived by her brother Glen (Lorna) Clark; and her sister-in-law Madeline Clark. She leaves to mourn numerous relatives and friends. She was predeceased by her parents, Russell and Grace; and brother Maurice (Mo). Joan was born on April 28, 1939, in Neepawa, MB. She grew up in the Springhill District and graduated from Kelwood High School, then "Normal School," following which she began teaching at Turtle Plains. Joan married Edgar Smith in July 1957 and moved to Winnipeg. Son Trevor was born in September 1963 and the family moved to Thunder Bay, ON, in spring of 1964. Daughter Karen was born in March 1965 and the family remained in Thunder Bay until September 1973. Various moves within Manitoba followed, settling in Warren, MB, in August of 1977. Joan and Ed retired in 1990 and enjoyed winters in Arizona. Joan will be remembered as a devoted and caring wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. She was a friend to all, and could always be relied upon. Everyone that knew her described her as a kind, caring and forgiving person. Joan had more patience than anyone, and always loved to spend time with her grand-children. Joan lived for her family, and will be deeply missed by all that knew her.The family would like to thank Dr. Harris and the staff at CancerCare, Grace Hospital, along with the staff of 3 North, 4 South and ICU, also, the staff at MICU at Health Sciences Centre for their expertise and gentle care. A special thanks to close friends Sharon and Hazell. A memorial service will be held at MacKenzie Funeral Chapel in Stonewall, MB, on Saturday, October 9 at 10:00 a.m. Lunch to follow at Warren Memorial Hall, Warren. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to CancerCare Manitoba or The Arthritis Society. "We love you and you will be in our hearts forever."
