JERRY SOSNOWICH (SOSNOWSKY) With a sense of humour, a courageous battle and a stubborn will, Dads fight with cancer ended peacefully, with his children by his side on October 7, 2004. He was 76 years of age. Jerry will be sadly missed by his five children and 11 grandchildren. Eldest son Terry (Darlene predeceased) grandson Trevor and granddaughter Randene; daughter Darlene (Darena Snowe) (Mark Potash) grandson Levin and granddaughter Lily; daughter Marlene (Hawcroft) grandson Tanner; grandson Jadon and granddaughter Desiree; son Alan (Joelle) grandson Sean and granddaughter Lauren; son Michael (Leah) granddaughter Haley and granddaughter Carly (who resides in Colorado). Jerry is survived by his oldest brother Louis, who resides in Arizona and many nieces and nephews and extended family. He was predeceased by his father Alexander and mother Maria and his eldest brother Emile. Jerry was born in Tauriv, a little village west of Ternople, Ukraine. He immigrated to Canada with his parents and brothers at the age of nine, where they settled in rural Manitoba. He later moved to Winnipeg where he married Anne Kawka. He worked hard at honing his trade in the construction business ending up engineering and supervising large projects in many northern communities. Jerry was a very handsome and debonaire man. He used to model in his younger years and was always a very sharp and classy dresser. He was a wonderful dancer and used to sweep you off the floor with his expert moves. No polka was too fast, no waltz was too slow for him to show off his great style. He loved nature, quietly watching birds, fishing, talking about how the trees affected the sound around you. Another great love was talking politics and "kibitzing" with everyone. He was always "supervising" everybody with his endless work projects. With his quiet inner strength he helped to re-unite his family to come together to help make his limited time left a peaceful and loving atmosphere. His grandchildren adored him. He always had a sparkle in his eye, a little joke and a gentle word and touch for them. His child like nature will be in their memories forever. His family would like to express with great thanks to all the doctors and assistants, nurses and staff at the CancerCare Unit at the Health Science Centre. We would also like to thank the staff at Riverview Health Centre for their expertise and kindness. They helped us all to understand and accept our Fathers illness. A very special Thank you to WRHA for doing all that they could to keep our father safe and comfortable at home for as long as they could. Prayers will be held at Knysh Funeral Home on Wednesday, October 13 at 7:00 p.m., 1020 Main St., Winnipeg. Divine Liturgy celebration on Thursday, October 14 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Vladimir and Olga Cathedral, 114 McGregor St., Winnipeg. Interment to follow at All Saints Cemetery, 4535 Main St., West St. Paul, MB, Rev. Fr. M. Kouts officiating. Official pallbearers will be his three sons, Terry, Alan and Michael and his grandchildren, Sean and Tanner and son-in-law Mark. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the CancerCare of Manitoba or to the Canadian Celiac Association, Manitoba Chapter or Riverview Health Centre Palliative Care Unit. Not a day goes by that there isn't a little sign that you are around me. Now you are with your son and my brother Alan. I know you both will be kibitzing and laughing and keeping each other great company. I miss you both so very very much. - Posted by: Darena Snowe (daughter) on: Feb 02, 2021
