Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryDAVID JAMES CROSS It is with great sadness that our family announces the passing of Dave in Victoria, BC on October 5, 2004 at the age of 73. Dave was born December 24, 1930 in Montreal, QC. He leaves behind his wife Yvette; son Larry; daughter Maureen Cross; daughter-in-law Grace-Ann; and grandsons, Adam, Steve, Kyle and Richard Cross. A journalist for 51 years, he retired to Victoria until diabetes ultimately claimed his life. Dave moved west to work for Canadian Press in Winnipeg in 1950. He married Yvette Beauchamp in 1952. 1957 was the start of a 23 year love affair with the Winnipeg Tribune. He rose through the ranks until he held positions of responsibility such as assistant managing editor and ombudsman. Respected by his peers, Dave chaired numerous Western Canadian News Editor Conferences. The Tribune folded in 1980 so Dave and his wife moved to Ottawa continuing his career at the Ottawa Citizen in various capacities. Upon retirement, Dave served as President, for two, four year terms, of the St. Vincent de Paul Society, Queen of Peace Conference. Ill health forced him to step down a year ago. Funeral services will be held in Victoria at the Queen of Peace Church, 851 Old Esquimalt Rd., at noon, Tuesday, October 12. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him. - 30 -

Dave was a good guy. I'm sorry to hear of his passing. There are not many decent fellows like Dave, a scholar and a gentleman. And a damn good Editor, as well! - Posted by: Keith Woolhouse (Friend & colleague) on: May 12, 2015
