MARIA DI FONZO (nee DAmico) Maria, wife of the late Ciro Di Fonzo, passed away on October 9, 2004, at St. Boniface Hospital with family by her side. Maria, 91, was an extraordinary mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was predeceased by her parents Angelo and Nicoletta, first born Mario (2 years old), brother Emerico, and brother-in-law Concezio Di Marco. She leaves to mourn her children: Adelina (Aldo Rama), Leda (Enzo Ceparano) of Italy, Rocco (Susan), Mario (Claudia), special family friend Antonio Di Frangia, whom she considered a son. Her sisters Claudina (Paolino) of Montreal, Mellina of Italy, sister-in-law Dora of Montreal. Her grandchildren Dino (Marlene), Sandra (Peter), Anita, Lori, Marcello (Kelly), Chris, Lisa, Roberto (France), Andrea, Jessica (Giulio), Pam (James). Her great-grandchildren: Trevor (Rachele), Nichole, Erika, and Brock. Plus many nieces and nephews in Montreal and Italy. Maria was born on October 5, 1913 in Ornano, Piccolo, Italy. Maria came to Canada in 1959 along with three of her children. Her whole life has been filled with hardships and struggles, but her strong character and faith allowed her to persevere. She worked for the Health Sciences Centre for 20 years. She then went on to work for Holy Rosary Church for 13 years as their cook, ultimately retiring again at age 79 due to her first incidence with cancer. Her greatest passions in life were her family and cooking. She loved being with her friends and playing bocce, cards and even going to the casino. Maria was also an excellent gardener and loved having plants around her, especially violets. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, October 13 at 10:00 a.m. in Holy Rosary Roman Catholic Church, 510 River Avenue with Rev. Fr. Gary R. Killen as celebrant. Entombment will follow at Queen of Heaven Mausoleum, Assumption Cemetery, 3990 Portage Avenue. Pallbearers will be her grandsons. Marias family would like to thank the staff on 4B Ward St. Boniface Hospital for their special care and friendship.
