Last passed away on Saturday, October 9, 2004 at the Teulon Hunter Memorial Hospital following a valiant fight with cancer. Elbourne was born on April 10, 1926 to Philip and Gertrude Last (nee Good). He was born and raised on "the farm" north-east of Argyle. Elbourne married Jean Buchanan (also of Argyle) on June 27, 1951, bought their home east of Argyle where they raised their four children. In 1987, Elbourne lost his partner for life, his wife Jean. Although this tremendous loss changed him, he remained a pillar of strength for his family over the past 17 years. Those who loved him and mourn his passing are his children, Sheila Cooper (Ken) of Montreal, Leona Nichol (Blaine) of Winnipeg, Donna Stewart (Walt) of Argyle, Murray Last (Beth) of Argyle; his grandchildren, Lisa and Matthew Nichol, Morgan and Mackenzie Stewart, Daniel, Gavriel and Naftali Cooper; his sister and brother-in-law, Ethel and Bill Buchanan; brother Don Last; brothers-in-law, Harvey Buchanan (Evelyn) and Roy Buchanan (Sheila). Sister-in-law Audrey Buchanan predeceased him in 1995. Numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and neighbours will miss his presence. Elbourne enjoyed good health for 78 years, was able to curl over 50 games this past winter and put in the crop prior to his illness this spring. Family, farming and community events were his priority and pleasure. He loved animals, growing crops and raising cattle with Don and Murray. Elbourne was a active life time member of the Argyle Curling Club where he taught his family a love for the game. In more recent years, he enjoyed Tuesday morning golfing in Inwood with his friends. Flowers are gratefully declined. Friends who so desire may make a donation in Elbournes memory to the Teulon Hunter Memorial Hospital or to the charity of their choice. Anyone able to donate blood may want to consider making a donation to help other cancer patients like Dad. Funeral service will be held on Wednesday, October 13 at 11:00 a.m. at the MacKenzie Funeral Chapel, Stonewall. MacKenzie Funeral Home, Stonewall in care of arrangements.
