JOHN (JACK) CARLSON Jack Carlson, aged 70 years of Matheson Island, died tragically October 8, 2004 on Lake Winnipeg. Jack was born to Kathleen and Ingemar Carlson on June 27, 1934. His memory will be forever cherished and held dear by his loving and devoted wife, Dianne (nee Remillard) his only child, Monique and her husband Rob Gibbons; and his grandchildren, Michelle and Sean, who were his pride and joy. Also surviving him are his seven siblings, Dave (Gert) Carlson of BC, Allie Mowat of Selkirk, Edna Bennett of Winnipeg, Vernie Bennett of Headingley, Joe (Edie) Carlson of Matheson Island, Millie Bruce of Matheson Island and Bernard (Elva) Carlson of Thompson; as well as numerous other relatives and friends. Jack was a hard worker and held jobs in B.C., at the Gimli Air Force Base, and in Winnipeg at Furnasman, Etna Htg. and CN before moving north to Berens River to work for the Frontier School Division. The family lived there for six years before Jack transferred to Matheson Island to be nearer his parents and siblings. From his retirement in 1989-90 and until his passing, Jack made his livelihood by commercial fishing and trapping. The family takes great comfort in knowing that Jack died where he was the happiest: on the lake. They wish to extend their deepest gratitude to all those who participated in the search for Jack and to everyone who provided solace and support during this most difficult time. A service will be held at 3:00 p.m. Wednesday, October 13 at Riverton Community Hall, 175 Riverton Ave., Riverton, MB with Rev. Neill von Gunten officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate receiving your written memories or anecdotes about Jack - be it a few words, a page or more.
