JOHN FINLAY John Finlay, a loving father, grandfather and great-grandfather, passed away on October 12, 2004 at the Grace Hospital with his family by his side. John passed away at the age of 90. John was predeceased by his wife Sadie in 1990; his son John Brooks in 2002; his two brothers, Fred and Alan; and his sister Mary Mullen. John will be sadly missed by his daughters, Cheryl Warner and husband Ron, Trish Hinther and husband Bob; his daughter-in-law Eileen Finlay; his grandchildren, Ashley, Ryan, Greg and wife Terri and great-granddaughter Emily, Bryan and wife Chantell and great-granddaughter Kaitlin. John was born in Lucknow, ON on May 8, 1914. Four years later, John and his family moved to a farm near Hanley, SK where John grew up, met and married his wife Sadie. John had a long and very successful career as an educator starting as a teacher in a one-room school house on the prairies, progressing through several positions as a school principal and ending his career as an associate superintendent of the Edmonton Public School Board. Not only did John love teaching his students, but he also loved coaching and participating in many sports such as baseball, hockey, curling, golfing and in later years, shuffleboard and billiards. During their retirement years, John and Sadie spent many enjoyable years at their summer home in Ross Haven, AB and at their winter home in Mesa, AZ. John was loved and respected by all who knew him. He was a loving and generous father who derived great pride and joy from spending time with his family. Johns family would like to thank the staff at Golden West Centennial Lodge and the Grace Hospital for their compassionate care. In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made in Johns memory to the Salvation Army (500-55 Donald St.). A memorial service will be held on Friday, October 15 at 2:00 p.m. at the chapel in Golden West Centennial Lodge, 811 School Rd. (corner of School Road and Ness Avenue). A private family interment will be held at Glen Lawn Memorial Gardens. Arrangements entrusted to: GLEN LAWN FUNERAL HOME 455 LAGIMODIERE BLVD. 982-7550
