LEIF RASMUSSEN January 12, 1947 - October 16, 2004 It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden, unexpected passing of Leif Rasmussen. He will be dearly missed by his wife Joan (Hebert) of 36 years; his three daughters, Karen (Mark), Joanne (Jerry), and Lisa; his sisters, Linda (Bruce) and Janet (Ron) along with many friends and extended family. He was predeceased by his parents, Almar and Astrid Rasmussen; and his father-in-law Matthew Hebert. Born in Stavanger, Norway, Leif immigrated to Winnipeg in 1950. In 1968, he married Joan Hebert. Together they provided a warm and loving home for their three daughters. Leifs commanding presence concealed his immense heart and his gentle nature. He truly was a gentle giant. His life revolved around his wife and his daughters who were his great pride and joy. He was always giving of himself so that his family could live a good and happy life. We, his family, admired and adored him so much. Dad was the centre of our universe, and we were proud to have him as the head of our family. He started a business with almost nothing in his early 20s, and turned it into a success which has been able to provide a comfortable life for all of us. The business allowed him the freedom to take time to attend important family events, such as Christmas concerts and graduations. He took us on family vacations every summer to teach us that there is a bigger world beyond Winnipeg, but also to show us that it was okay to take time off and relax. For that same reason, he bought a cottage as a family retreat where each of us, especially Dad, was able to relax and have fun. Well never forget how much he loved zipping around the lake on his Sea Doo. Dad was taken from us much too soon, but we are grateful for the time that we had with him, for he enriched our lives beyond what words can say. We will always love you and miss you. Our family wishes to thank the staff at the Health Sciences Centre Emergency Room for all their care and kindness through our difficult time. In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made to Health Sciences Centre Foundation, MS-7, Thorlakson Building, 820 Sherbrook St., Winnipeg, MB R3A 1R9, phone (204) 787-2022. Funeral service will be held on Wednesday, October 20, at 2:00 p.m., at Glen Eden Funeral Home, 4477 Main St. Interment will follow in Glen Eden Memorial Gardens. Arrangements entrusted to: GLEN EDEN FUNERAL HOME 4477 MAIN STREET 338-7111 Family and friends are invited to sign the Book of Condolences at www.gleneden-mb.ca.
