PERCIVAL "PERCY" SARAHS Peacefully, after a brief illness, Percy Sarahs, aged 87 passed away at the Grace Hospital on Sunday, October 17, 2004. Percy will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 62 years, Ruth; children, Rick (Carol), David (Maureen), Dennis (Janice), Kathy (Edward) Richard and Ken (Moe) eight grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; his sister Bette Ashton; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents; sister Nellie Crocker; and brother Roy. Percy was a member of the Canadian Armed Forces from 1939, retiring in 1967. In 1967 he joined the Manitoba Health Services Commission, retiring in 1980. Percy enjoyed many leisure activities, including golfing, curling and watching his children and grandchildren in their many sporting activities. His greatest sporting memory was being a member of the team that represented Manitoba in 1962 in the Canadian Legion Curling Championships in Fredericton, NB. In later years, he and Ruth enjoyed many long neighbourhood walks. Dad was a kind, thoughtful and loving husband, father and grandfather and will be sadly missed by his family and friends. He will be remembered for the special care (as Ruths seeing eye dog) over the past few years. The family would like to thank the medical staff of the 3rd floor at the Grace Hospital for the care provided to Dad during his stay. Memorial service will be held on Saturday, October 23 at 12:30 p.m. at the Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Ave. A reception will follow. In lieu of flowers, should friends so desire, a donation in memory of Percy would be appreciated to CancerCare Manitoba, ON1160-675 McDermot Ave., Winnipeg, MB R3E 0V9 or the Manitoba Heart and Stroke Foundation, 200-6 Donald St., Winnipeg, MB R3L 0K6.
