LYDIA SCHINDEL March 14, 1910 - October 19, 2004 It is with profound sadness that our family announces the peaceful passing of Lydia Schindel on October 19, 2004 at the age of 94. She was predeceased by her beloved husband Friedrich in 1976, grandson Clifford in 1989 and son Artur in 1998. She was also predeceased by her younger brothers, Kurt and Heinz of Germany. Our "Mama" will be lovingly remembered by her children, Walter (Nettie), Linda Dallman, Elli (Sepp) Kronhofer, Adina (Werner) Pohl, Ernst, Helga (Ron) Kehler, Gretel (Ed) Lambert and daughter-in-law Ella Schindel. She also leaves to mourn her brother Willi (Gerda) Wolter and her sisters, Helga and Ruth and their families all in Germany. Also left to cherish "Omas" memories are her 13 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and eight great-great-grandchildren. Lydia was born on March 14, 1910 in Berestowitz, Wolinien (in the Ukraine). In 1929 she married Friedrich Schindel (a widower with his young son Artur). Eleven children were born thereafter unfortunately three died at an early age, Ruth, Hans and Kurt. After the Second World War the entire family fled to Germany. In 1952 the family immigrated to Winnipeg. She was such a hard worker, working at Health Sciences Centre and the later years at Eatons. She was a dedicated and loving wife. She was a caring and understanding mother. She loved all her grandchildren unconditionally and treasured her great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. She will be fondly remembered for her "streuselkuchen", "suelze" and "sauerkraut". You were always welcomed in her home and always, always well fed. She was a deeply religious woman, so strong in her Baptist faith. We are comforted in knowing that she is now in the arms of Jesus, home at last. Schlaf in himmlischer Ruh, liebe Mama! Pallbearers will be her grandsons, Ben Schindel, Henry Schindel and Todd Kehler; grandsons-in-law, Dave Benzie and Brad Kirsh and great-grandson Matthew Benzie. Visitation will be held on Sunday, October 24 from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Klassen Funeral Home, 1897 Henderson Hwy. Funeral service will be held on Monday, October 25 at 10:00 a.m. at Klassen Funeral Home with Pastor Wayne Eisbrenner officiating. Flowers are gratefully declined. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Mission Projects, in care of Mission Baptist Church, 771 Sargent Ave., Winnipeg, R3E 0B5.
