Matilda was predeceased by her parents, Annie and William Kapetz; parents-in-law, Clara and George Mitchell; brothers, Peter and Nick Kapetz; brothers-in-law, Johnny and David Mitchell and sister-in-law Isabel Leflar. Mourning her loss are sisters, Lillian (Mirone) Klysh, Shirley (Fred) Karau; brother Mike (Fran) Kapetz; sisters-in-law, Marge Kapetz, Helen Kapetz, Liz (Orton) Stauffer, Marg Mitchell; brother-in-law Greig (Marlene) Mitchell; numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins who will miss "Aunt Mat". Matilda was born on October 20, 1928 in Roblin, MB to Annie and William Kapetz. Matilda worked on the family farm for some time and graduated Normal School in Winnipeg. In fact, she had just attended her Normal Schools 55th reunion in Portage la Prairie in June of 2004. Matilda married Stuart in 1952. They moved to Flin Flon to raise a family. Stuart worked in the mine, and Matilda became part of the Flin Flon School District where she taught elementary school until she retired in 1982. Matilda was an active member in the United Church, a sister in the Rebekkahs and a member of the Legion where she enjoyed attending the meat draws on Friday nights. Matilda loved to play cards, especially cribbage, which she taught to many of her grandchildren. She loved to knit, crochet and sew. Many of her beautiful creations are the treasured possession of her children and grandchildren. Mom also loved to cook. Her family will miss the perogies, holubchi, cinnamon buns and "Sunday Morning Stew". She took pride in the accomplishments of her grandchildren and was only too happy to tell others. On behalf of Matilda, the family would like to thank her friends and neighbours who were such a big part of her life in Flin Flon and also the staff on A4 and the dialysis unit at the Health Sciences Centre for the care of Mom during her final days. Flowers are gratefully declined. If friends so wish, donations can be made to the Manitoba Heart and Stroke Foundation or a charity of choice. A memorial service was held for Matilda on October 16 at 2:00 p.m. at the Northminster United Church in Flin Flon. Interment followed in the Hillside Cemetery beside her husband Stuart. MOM And she left us on a dark and dreary day Like a whisper in the wind. Only silence telling us that she was gone. Signs of peace written on her face. What to do? What to say? How to cope? We shared our grief and the rain fell... In our sadness, we remembered Her faith and her great love For the husband gone so long ago. Like a miracle, the clouds broke And the light shone through. In the sunshine we knew Shed found her way.
